    Forensic Hospitals provide intensive inpatient psychiatric services for prison inmates who are in need of inpatient psychiatric hospitalization and whose symptoms can not be adequately addressed by the prison mental health service delivery system. Forensic Hospitals also provide intensive inpatient psychiatric services for individuals who have commited crimes but were found not guilty due to a mental illness. Also referred to as not guilty by reason of insanity.
