24/7 HotlineStaffed 24 hours a day Access to emergency protection Information and referral for victims of abuse and their family and friends Confidential counseling If you’re in an abusive relationship, you may feel confused and have a lot of questions. Would my life be better or worse without him? Can he really change? If I leave, how would I financially support myself and my children? Where would I stay until I found a place to live? Would I be able to find affordable housing? Do I have any legal rights? You might also be worrying about your partner. Will he be destroyed if I leave him? Am I responsible for helping him? If I stay, will he continue to seek counseling? These are all very difficult questions to answer alone. If you would like information or just need to talk to someone who understands, please call the JBWS Helpline. Our helpline is staffed 24 hours a day by trained staff, and, of course, all calls are confidential. Morris County24/7 HotlineJersey Battered Women's Service, Inc

Brahma HouseBrahma House serves more than 200 youth each year, and the numbers keep rising. Factors such as substance abuse by the child's primary caretaker and the economic stress caused by single parent families have been identified by staff as two of the biggest concerns facing youth today. Our agency strategic plan and referral source surveys indicate that there is an increasing need for emergency placement of youth who are at risk of further abuse if they are to remain with their primary caretakers. Community Response TeamDomestic Violence Crisis Response Team JBWS, in conjunction with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, established the Domestic Violence Crisis Response Team in April of 1997. Each Crisis Response Team consists of a group of volunteers who provide information and emotional assistance for victims immediately following a domestic violence phone call. Domestic violence response teams are operating in all police departments throughout the county, and their assistance has been imperative in strengthening and diversifying victims’ support systems. Studies demonstrate that many victims of domestic violence will return to their abusers if they are provided with little or no support. Police officers provide protection to victims of domestic violence by arresting and processing the batterer while volunteers help the victim to feel less isolated and alone. Since individuals are more responsive to intervention in times of crisis, CRT volunteers respond to the police department to provide emotional support, education on domestic violence, community resources and a safety plan. All victims are offered a follow-up contact by JBWS. Teams are composed of trained citizen advocates who serve as volunteers for their local police departments. All volunteers go through a rigorous evaluation process followed by an intensive 40-hour training. Upon successful completion of the CRT training component, volunteers are on-call to their assigned police departments. Additionally, individual supervision is provided to volunteer by JBWS within twenty-four (24) hours of their call. The goals of the Crisis Response Team are to: Decrease the emotional trauma experienced by victims—by providing the victim with an opportunity to express her emotional response to the crisis and educating her about the dynamics of domestic violence. Increase a victim’s ability to make an educated decision about her options—by increasing the victim’s awareness of available community resources and legal options and her understanding of the legal process. To increase the victim’s access to community resources—by providing the victims with the necessary information to access available community resources and assisting her in contacting those resources.Morris CountyOutpatient CounselingJersey Battered Women's Service, Inc

The shelter is a beautiful, large, warm, comfortable home, called a shelter because it is safe and secure. Protection from the abuser is the primary reason why women come to our shelter. Women and their children stay in private bedrooms and share the living room and kitchen areas with other families. Individual and group counseling are available. Women who come to our shelter continue their daily activities such as supervising their children, shopping for food, preparing meals, and going to work. Housing and financial resource referrals are available to women and their children, who may stay in the shelter for up to 60 days. Morris CountyResidential ProgramJersey Battered Women's Service, Inc

Holocaust Survivors AssistanceThis program is now in its eight year - and far exceeds our original expectations. Financial Assistance for all services is provided by the Jewish Material Claims Conference Against Germany. We also run parties for holocaust survivors, Purim, Passover, Sepers and Chanukah. There are numerous Holocaust survivors in Monmouth County, and many of these people are at the subsistence level, unable to support themselves. In addition to home health aides, homemakers and counseling services, we provide financial aid, volunteers to look in on these elderly Survivors, help with shopping and bill-paying, and an active Support Group - where they can talk with other Holocaust survivors. and also meet local people who can assist them. The unspoken theme of this Survivors Program is "Never Forget." Monmouth CountyCommunity Based ProgramJewish Family & Children's Service of Greater Monmouth County

Transitional HousingThe purpose of the Transitional Housing Program is to provide women with the time they need to build their independent living skills, and to afford them the opportunity to seek employment and secure permanent housing. Economic independence is crucial for battered women, and without long-term housing options, victims of violence may be forced to return to dangerous situations. Three months in the emergency shelter is not always enough to establish a new life for a victim, away from her abuser. Most of the women are unable to be self-sufficient until they have opportunities to strengthen their skills for employment and locate affordable housing. That is why SOS continues to provide affordable housing in our transitional homes.Bergen County24 Hour HotlineShelter Our Sisters

The Women's Trauma Program is a comprehensive, innovative model of treatment for women who are suffering from the impact of trauma or abuse-either by history or in their present circumstances. Traumatic experiences may include long-term psychological, sexual, physical or verbal abuse, as well as rape or domestic violence. Traditional programs for women who have experienced trauma often exclusively focus on treating psychiatric symptoms instead of addressing the underlying causes of the problems.
